Xerox ® Everyday drums and toner cartridges that contain electrical and electronic components are subject to the European directive on waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), and are marked with the crossed-out wheeled bin symbol to indicate to the end user that the cartridge must be recycled separately from other household waste.

STMC
The STMC (Standardized Test Methods Committee) is an international committee set up to develop and promote approved test methods for the printer cartridge industry. These test methods are used to evaluate the performance of toner cartridges. When approved test methods are used, a cartridge can be evaluated anywhere and produce the same results regardless of who carries out the test.
The STMC uses some ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) test methods, such as ASTM F1856 for yield, and ASTM F 2036 for image density and background. These test methods are used solely to compare one finished cartridge against another, typically one from an original equipment manufacturer. They do not measure individual components.
